Target description

Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) (UniProt: P03230) is encoded by the LMP1 (also known as BNLF1) gene (Gene ID: 3783750) in Epstein-Barr virus (strain B95-8) (HHV-4) (Human herpesvirus 4). Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) is a viral oncoprotein encoded by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and is known for its critical role in EBV-associated oncogenesis. LMP1 functions as a constitutively active mimic of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) and can activate various signaling pathways, including NF- B, JNK, and PI3K/Akt. Through its ability to modulate these pathways, LMP1 can promote cell proliferation, inhibit apoptosis, and induce the expression of various cytokines and growth factors. Additionally, LMP1 contributes to the immortalization of infected B cells and is implicated in the pathogenesis of EBV-associated malignancies, including Hodgkin′s lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
