General description

Anti-RNF138 antibody detects endogenous levels of total RNF138 protein.
The RNF138 (RING (really interesting new gene) finger protein 138) gene is mapped to human chromosome 18q12.1 and is predominantly expressed in testis. It encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase, which is a CaV2.1 (voltage gated calcium channel) binding protein. It is a 245 amino acid protein containing a RING (really interesting new gene) domain at the N-terminal, zinc fingers, and an ubiquitin interacting motif at the C-terminal.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human RNF138.

Immunogen Range: 31-80

Biochem/physiol Actions

Upregulation of RNF138 (RING (really interesting new gene) finger protein 138) induces polyubiquitination and increases the synthesis/degradation of CaV2.1 (voltage gated calcium channel). In response to DNA damage, RNF138 is localized to the DNA damage site mediated by zinc fingers. Deletion of RNF138 increases the sensitivity to DNA damaging agents and chromosomal instability. RNF138 is upregulated in gliomas.
