General description

Anti-Fibroblast Growth Factor-Basic antibody, Mouse monoclonal (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the FB-8 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from an immunized mouse. Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are members of a family of polypeptides. The names FGF acidic and basic are used for FGF-1 and FGF-2, respectively. Acidic and basic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF and bFGF, respectively) are members of a small family of heparin binding growth factors (HBGF). bFGF usually has an apparent mass of about 18 kDa.

Specificity

The antibody reacts specifically with both native and recombinant human FGF2. It does not cross-react with human FGF1.

Immunogen

recombinant human FGF2.

Application

Anti-Fibroblast Growth Factor-Basic antibody has been used in in immunolabelling and western blotting. It may also be used in:
  • in immunoblotting
  • in enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • in dot blot
  • in radio immune assay (RIA)
  • in neutralization bioassays

Used in protein pin array assay to identify the interactive sequences in human αB crystalline protein. The antibody can be used for neutralization of the biological activity of FGF2 in cell culture.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Fibroblast Growth Factor Basic (also known as bFGF) is a pleotropic cytokine that that is a potent mitogenic factor. On binding to its cognate receptor tyrosine kinase, FGFR, bFGF is capable of activating pathways such as MAPK and PI3K and produce cellular effects in varied cell types. Fibroblast Growth Factor-basic is reported to induce proliferation of fibroblasts, differentiation, wound healing and regeneration, limb formation, tissue remodeling and angiogenesis.

Physical form

Solution, 0.2 μm filtered, in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4.
