General description

Cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate has a cobalt ion surrounded by a tetragonal arrangement of chloride ligands. Four water molecules occupy a square plane about cobalt while chloride ions occupy axial positions. Its crystals belong to the monoclinic lattice system.

Application

Cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate may be used in the following studies:
  • For the in-situ synthesis of nickel(0) and cobalt(0) nanoclusters stabilized by poly(4-styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid).
  • Preparation of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-cobalt (II) chloride hexahydrate nanofiber composites, via electrospinning method.
  • As catalyst for the synthesis of 2-arylbenzimidazole.
  • Acetylation of alcohols with carboxylic acids to form the corresponding acylated products.
  • Tosylation of aliphatic and aromatic alcohols with tosylic acid.
