Gene Information

human ... GFAP(2670)

General description

This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.

Immunogen

A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within amino acids 300 to the C-terminus of human GFAP (NP_002046.1).

Physical form

PBS with 0.02% sodium azide,50% glycerol,pH7.3.

Storage and Stability

Store at -20℃. Avoid freeze / thaw cycles.

Questions

    1 answer
    1. Anti-GFAP (SAB5700611) is a primary antibody targeting the Glial fibrillary acidic protein found in astrocytes. When used in conjunction with Anti-Rabbit IgG (H+L) (SAB4600045) in an experiment, e.g., immunofluorescence or western blot, the goat-produced Anti-Rabbit IgG (H+L) secondary antibody (SAB4600045) would bind to the rabbit-produced Anti-GFAP primary antibody. This is because the secondary antibody is specific for rabbit immunoglobulins, and the primary antibody is produced in rabbits, thus containing rabbit IgG.
