Gene Information

General description

Ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (IBA1), also called the allograft inflammatory factor 1 (AIF1) is mapped to human chromosome 6p21.33. It encodes a 17 kDa protein and comprises calcium binding EF hand motif. IBA1 is expressed in lung, tonsil, lymph node and spleen. In addition,it is also expressed in macrophages and glial cells.

Immunogen

Recombinant protein encompassing a sequence within the center region of human Iba1.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-Iba1 antibody produced in mouse has been used:
  • in the double immunofluorescence
  • in the immunofluorescence
  • in immunohistochemistry

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (IBA1) interacts with filamentous actin (F‐actin) and L‐fimbrin. Its expression is modulated during injury. Inflammatory cytokines also induce IBA1 expression. IBA1 expression is implicated in the graft rejection in coronary artery vasculopathy (CAV). It is highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma and may serve a potential marker and therapeutic target. Increased expression of AIF1 in synovial fluid and peripheral blood monocytes is implicated in rheumatoid arthritis.
