General description

Calcium hydroxide is commonly used in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to adjust pH. Calcium hydroxide has numerous applications due to its strong basic characteristics. Uses include flocculants in water and sewage treatment, a whitewash ingredient, soil improvement, as a lye substitute in non-lye hair relaxers, and in the liming industry to neutralize the acid.

Application

Calcium hydroxide can be used:
  • In the pretreatment of technical lignin during the pyrolysis in a fluidized bed reactor to overcome the agglomeration to produce phenolic-rich bio-oil.
  • As a catalyst in the pyrolysis of pinewood in a fixed bed reactor.
