Gene Information
mouse ... Per2(18627)
General description
PER2 is a component of the circadian clock mechanism which is essential for generating circadian rhythms. It is a negative element in the circadian transcriptional loop by Influencing clock function by interacting with other circadian regulatory proteins and transporting them to the nucleus. PER2 negatively regulates CLOCK NPAS2-BMAL1 BMAL2-induced transactivation. This gene is a member of the Period family of genes and is expressed in a circadian pattern in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, the primary circadian pacemaker in the mammalian brain. Genes in this family encode components of the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity, metabolism, and behavior. Circadian expression in the suprachiasmatic nucleus continues in constant darkness, and a shift in the light/dark cycle evokes a proportional shift of gene expression in the suprachiasmatic nucleus. The specific function of this gene is not yet known.
Specificity
Cat. # AB2202 will recognize the N-terminus of PER2.
Reactivity with other species has not been determined.

Western Blot Analysis:
C2C12 lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to PVDF membrane and probed with anti-PER2 (1:500 dilution of this lot). Proteins were visualized using a Donkey anti-rabbit secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and a chemiluminescence detection system.

Circadian disruption is a risk factor for metabolic, psychiatric and age-related disorders, and non-human primate models could help to develop therapeutic treatments. Here, we report the generation of BMAL1 knockout cynomolgus monkeys for circadian-related disorders by CRISPR/Cas9 editing of monkey

We recently reported a role for the circadian rhythm protein Period 2 (PER2) in midazolam induced cognitive dysfunction. Based on previous studies showing a critical role for the adenosine A2B receptor (ADORA2B) in PER2 regulation, we hypothesized that hippocampal ADORA2B

The hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), locus of the master circadian clock, bears many neuronal types. At the cellular-molecular level, the clock is comprised of feedback loops involving 'clock' genes including Period1 and Period2, and their protein products, PERIOD1 and PERIOD2
