Description générale

Method: colorimetric, indophenol blue, with color card and comparator block with short test tubes 0.2-0.5-0.8-1.2-1.6-2-3-5-8 mg/l NH₄⁺ 0.16-0.4-0.6-0.9-1.2-1.6-2.3-3.9-6.2 mg/l NH₄-N MQuant®
With the MQuant® Ammonium test (formally MColortest®) ammonium ions can be detected in e.g. groundwater and surface water, seawater, drinking water and aquarium water. Ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) occurs partly in the form of ammonium ions and partly as ammonia. A pH-dependent equilibrium exists between the two forms.

Method
In strongly alkaline solution ammonia reacts with a chlorinating agent to form monochloramine. This in turn reacts with thymol to form a blue indophenol derivative. Due to the intrinsic yellow coloration of the reagent blank, the measurement solution is yellow-green to green in color. The ammonium concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color card. The unique brilliance of the print and their fine color graduation allow precise analyses, even at the lower end of the concentration range. Using the refill pack 1.18455 the original test kit can be used for a very long time, making it a particularly economical and ecological system.

The test is suitable for ammonium determination in
  • Groundwater and surface water
  • Drinking water and mineral water
  • Aquarium water, waters from aquaculture
  • Boiler and boiler feed water, cooling water
  • Process water
  • Waste water
  • Electroplating wastewater
  • Swimming-pool water
  • Nutrient solutions for fertilization
  • Food after appropriate sample pretreatment

This test is not suited for seawater.

Application

  • Evaluation of Water Ammonium Ion Test Kit and Its Feasibility for the Analysis of Protein in Food.: This study evaluates the efficacy of an ammonium ion test kit for water quality analysis and its potential application in determining protein content in food samples, showcasing its versatility in both environmental and food sciences (Wu D et al., 2022).

  • Technical note: Evaluation of a colorimetric point-of-care test for measuring urine ammonium concentration in periparturient dairy cattle.: This research highlights the use of a colorimetric ammonium test for monitoring the health and metabolic status of dairy cattle, demonstrating its practical application in veterinary medicine (Megahed AA, Constable PD, 2020).

  • Using Cellulolytic Nitrogen Fixing Bacterium, Azomonas agilis for Effective Degradation of Agricultural Residues.: Ammonium tests are used to monitor nitrogen fixation and ammonia production in microbial degradation studies, emphasizing their role in sustainable agriculture and waste management (Latt ZK et al., 2018).

  • [Examination of drugs and poisons in institutions not equipped with an analyzer of them and poisons--focusing on the simple qualitative test of surfactants].: This study demonstrates the use of simple ammonium tests for the qualitative analysis of surfactants in forensic and toxicological investigations, highlighting their importance in settings lacking advanced analytical instruments (Kojima Y et al., 2003).

  • [15N] ammonium test for liver function diagnosis.: The [15N] ammonium test is utilized to assess liver function by monitoring nitrogen metabolism, providing valuable insights into liver health and the impact of various treatments on hepatic function (Jung K et al., 1989).
