General description

The product is a solution of 2M ammonia in ethanol. Ammonia is a colorless gas with a characteristic strong odor. It is highly soluble in water, alcohol, chloroform and ether. Ammonia molecule is pyramidal in shape with nitrogen in the center and the three hydrogen atoms along the three vertices and the lone pair of electrons on the fourth vertex. Ammonia solution is commonly used as a base.

Application

Ammonia solution (in 2M ethanol) was used as an ammonia source to study the role of ammonia in causing metabolic changes in bacteria.
