General description

Albumin, Bovine Serum, Fraction V, RIA and ELISA Grade is a purified plasma protein that is useful as a stabilizing agent and as a carrier protein. It is prepared under non-denaturing conditions by modification of the Cohn procedure and caprylic acid heat-shock treatment.
Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is an α-helical, non-glycosylated globular protein with 17-disulfide bonds.

Application

Albumin, Bovine Serum, Fraction V, RIA and ELISA Grade has been used:
  • to block tissue sections of placenta in immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis
  • as a component of Krebs buffer for in vitro glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) experiments and drug/palmitate preparation
  • as a vehicle control to incubate whole mouse blood to study plate aggregation in vivo

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), an important component in the cell culture media can transport fatty acids, hormones, and drugs. It is generally used as a blocking agent in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
