General description

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from placenta and its methylation pattern is indicative of anomalies in the fetal growth.[1] Tobacco smoking during pregnancy favors methylation and epigenetic modulation of placental DNA.[2]

Application

Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from human placenta has been used:
  • as a standard for optimization of digestion followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectroscopy[3]
  • as a standard for ultra violet (UV) spectrophotometer measurements[4]
  • in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and for standard curve generation for human papillomavirus type 6 quantification[5]

Human placenta DNA (hpDNA) is a natural DNA used in studies of DNA binding anticancer agents and DNA binding agents that modulate DNA structure and function. Human placenta DNA is also used in physicochemical studies of DNA behavior in solution.

Questions

  1. This item (D7011) has been discontinued. Can you please let me know what the comparable product is?

    1 answer
    1. Product D3035, is a solution of Deoxyribonucleic acid prepared from human placenta at a concentration of 0.05 mg/mL (the 0.1 mg pack size would be 2 mL) and would be the closest equivalent alternative to the discontinued D7011. Please see the link below to review this product:
      https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/sigma/d3035

If a powdered form is preferred we do offer comparable alternatives such as 11691112001 from Roche, Human Genomic DNA from human blood (buffy coat). It is not from human placenta but prepared from 100 to 200 individual blood donors of both sexes (pool of the buffy coat). If the DNA from another species is compatible in your application, products D1626 (from salmon) or D6898 (from herring) are options to consider.
