General description

The Milliflip® filter unit is a disposable, vacuum-driven nonsterile filtration system used in the pre-filtration and clarification of water, buffers and aqueous solutions. It is designed to work with standard 50 mL centrifuge tubes, which eliminates sample transfer.

Application

Nonsterile vacuum filtration of water, buffers and aqueous solutions

Features and Benefits

Eliminates messy sample transfer via simple vacuum-assisted system; attaches to any standard 50 ml centrifuge tube eliminating unnecessary materials and risk of spilage; ideal for nonsterile filtration of aqueous and organic solutions used in analytical sample preparation; convenient blue stand helps to hold the filter unit during filtration;

  2. What is a Milliflip™ filter unit?

    1 answer
    1. The nonsterile vacuum-driven Milliflip™ filter unit is designed to offer a convenient solution to quickly clarify samples, buffers and reagents prior to analysis. The ready-to-assemble, closed system of the Milliflip™ filtration unit offers an ergonomic design, robust filtration of up to 50 ml, maximizes recovery, saves time, and reduces contamination. There is no sample transfer needed as you can simply filter with a flip of your wrist.

      Helpful?

  3. Why is the liquid flowing out the vacuum tubing line?

    1 answer
    1. There are two recommendations:
      1. Confirm orientation: This is likely being used upside-down. See user manual for correct orientation.
      2. Make sure to use a trap with filtered line to prevent liquid from entering pump or vacuum set-up (i.e. Millex® FG 50mm Cat. SLFG05010)

      Helpful?

  4. What is the maximum centrifugal speed of the conical tube?

    1 answer
    1. 5000 x g (Fixed angle 23, 35, 45-degree rotors)

      Helpful?

  5. Does Milliflip™ have other options for membrane material besides 0.45 µm Durapore® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)?

    1 answer
    1. Milliflip™ is currently only offered in 0.45 µm Durapore® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). However, sterile versions of PES, Nylon and PVDF membranes are available in the Steriflip brand.

      Helpful?

  6. What is the minimum volume that can be filtered?

    1 answer
    1. Sample volume should be greater than 1-2 mL. Filter unit hold-up and tubes’ residual hold-up volume can be ~0.5 mL. It is best to have entire filter surface covered in liquid

      Helpful?

  7. Can I sterilize the Milliflip™ Durapore HV filter?

    1 answer
    1. Sterile version of the Durapore-HV filter can be ordered (Steriflip® HV filter Cat. SE1M003M00)

      Helpful?

  8. Do I have to use vacuum pressure to filter my sample?

    1 answer
    1. Yes, this is a vacuum type of device and processing is performed using vacuum pressure. Many types of vacuum sources may be used including pumps and house vacuum

      Helpful?

  9. What is the max. vacuum pressure that can be used when filtering with Milliflip™?

    1 answer
    1. Vacuum pressures up to 27.5” Hg may be used.

      Helpful?

  10. What is the effective surface area of the Milliflip™ device?

    1 answer
    1. 6.7cm² (1.04 in²)
