General description
1) Elution buffer disrupts the sandwich, separating the labeled detection antibody for quantification. 2) The SMCxPRO® immunoassay systems detects analytes using Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology.
Human Synaptosomal-Associated Protein, 25kDa (SNAP-25) is a protein receptor expressed mainly in developing neural tissue, and is a component of the trans-SNARE complex, which facilitates the exocytosis and release of synaptic vesicles containing neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft of neurons. SNAP-25 has been recently studied as a potential biomarker for synaptic dysfunction in general, with relevance in psychiatric diseases such as attention deficiency hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders. Additionally, the decrease of this presynaptic protein is being evaluated as a predictor of neurodegenerative conditions involving cognitive loss, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The new SMC® Human SNAP-25 High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit enables accurate measurements of this protein in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), serum, and plasma samples even at low abundance, and empowers work aimed to probe disease mechanisms and develop potential therapies for both psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
