General description

2-Phenoxyethanol is a compound, which belongs to the class of volatile organicshaving a faint rose like aromatic odor. It may find applications as a solvent in ball-point inks, resins and in organic synthesis. It may also be used in cosmetics as an antimicrobial agent and preservative.
2-Phenoxyethanol is commonly used as an anesthetic in fisheries and aquaculture applications.

Application

2-Phenoxyethanol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations and anesthetized fish using chromatography techniques. It may also be used as a test material to evaluate its efficacy as an anesthetic in juvenile European sea bass and gilthead sea bream through a series of experiments simulating aquaculture activities.
