Description générale

Le D-mannitol, un alcool de sucre (ou polyol) à six carbones d'origine naturelle, se retrouve dans certaines plantes comme les algues, les oignons, les graminées et les olives. Il est considéré comme sans danger en raison de son indice glycémique nettement inférieur à celui du saccharose.

Application

Le D-mannitol a été utilisé :
  • dans la création d'une charge osmotique pour ajuster l'osmolalité de solutions.
  • comme constituant d'une solution de sucre pour un test d'évaluation de la perméabilité au cellobiose-mannitol.
  • comme étalon interne en résonance magnétique nucléaire (RMN) pour comparer/analyser les concentrations en mannitol d'échantillons d'urine.
  • pour traiter des cellules témoins et réguler la pression osmotique d'une solution à forte teneur en glucose.

Le D-mannitol été utilisé comme comme piégeur des radicaux hydroxyles et comme complément aux milieux de culture.[1][2]

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Le D-mannitol pourrait jouer un rôle majeur dans la lipolyse et l'oxydation des graisses car il peut accroître la phosphorylation de la protéine kinase activée par l'AMP (AMPK) et de l'acétyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC). On l'utilise comme supplément anti-obésité. Le D-mannitol stimule la synthèse d'acides gras à chaîne courte (AGCC), qui régulent le métabolisme des lipides dans le foie.
Agent de sapidité sucré constitué de sucre d′alcool. Utilisé dans les études d′inhibition du goût sucré.

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. IS IT TESTED ON ANIMAL CELL CULTURE

    1. This product has not been tested with mammalian cell culture. It is cited to have been used in primary retinal cell culture.
      Kindly review the following publication: Trotta MC, Pieretti G, Petrillo F, Alessio N, Hermenean A, Maisto R, D'Amico M.   5. Hi! Is this product safe to use in studies for animals?

    1. This product is intended for research use only. Currently, no D-Mannitol product is offered that is tested for in vivo or in vitro use.
      For use in animal models, product M8429 may be a more suitable option. While still a research-grade reagent, this product meets USP, EP, and FCC specifications.

  6. I have a question about mannitol (as an excipient in a medicinal product). The questions would be the following: Is mannitol absorbed at intestinal level? Do you know about a possible interaction between mannitol and disulfiram? Thank you.

    1. Please note, unless otherwise stated, this product is intended for research purposes only and not for use as a drug to be administered to animals or humans.
      The in vivo metabolism of this product has not been evaluated. However, certain publications show that mannitol is absorbed by the small intestine.
