General description
RIPK5 is a dual specificity serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinase that is a member of the RIPK family. RIPK5 is widely expressed in vertebrates with broad distributed in the central nervous system, and deregulated in certain human cancers. RIPK5 has been shown to function as a regulator of cell death. Overexpression of RIPK5 leads to cell death as evidenced by DNA fragmentation. RIPK5 induces both caspase-dependent and caspase-independent cell death, and N- and C-terminal RIPK5 deletion mutants retained the ability to induce cell death.

Members of the RIP serine/threonine kinase family are involved in activation of NF-kappaB, JNK, and p38, and induction of apoptosis. Here we report the identification of a novel RIP-homologous protein designated as RIP5. The C-terminus of RIP5 contains a kinase

Ser/Thr- and Tyr-Protein kinases constitute a key switch underlying the dynamic nature and graded regulation of signal transduction and pathway activities in cellular organization. Here we describe the identification and characterization of Dusty, a single-copy gene that arose in metazoan
