General description

Magnesium sulfate is an anhydrous magnesium salt.

Application

Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as a drying agent in organic synthesis. Due to its high affinity towards water molecules, it removes trace amount of dissolved water from the organic extracts during the workup process. It is also used as a drying agent in the off-line supercritical fluid extraction method.
