Application

L-Phenylalanine has been used in Fluo-4 Ca2+-assay in a study to demonstrate that G-protein coupled receptor 139 reference surrogate agonists 1a and 7c and L-phenylalanine share a common binding site.[1] It has also been used to spike blood samples to study the effect of dried blood spots on newborn screening.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Phenylalanine is an essential aromatic amino acid.[3][4] It has a role in metabolism as it forms a starting point for many pathways.[5] This neutral amino acid is a precursor for tyrosine, epinephrine, dopamine and norepinephrine.[5][5]

  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How long is Phenylalanine stable for when dissolved in water?

    1. The long term stability of this product in solution has not been investigated. However, this material is a component in several amino acid solutions that are stable for at least 1 year when filter sterilized and stored refrigerated at 2 - 8°C.       In addition, the stability information available for product 5202, L-Phenylalanine, indicates that this amino acid is stable for up to 1 year when stored at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

    1. This product may be stored at room temperature in the powder form until the recommended retest date published in the lot specific Certificate of Analysis. This compound is assigned a rested date of approximately 5 years from the date of Quality Release. Please see the link below to review a sample Certificate:
