General description

Integrin alpha-V (or CD51; vitronectin receptor subunit alpha) protein is a transmembrane receptor that mediates adhesion of cells to each other and to the extracellular matrix. Integrin receptors are activated by a variety of intracellular signals that modify its cytoplasmic domain and induce configural changes in integrin molecules thereby enabling ligand binding to the extracellular surface. An important part of this process is the binding of the actin protein, talin, to the integrin cytoplasmic domain.
