Nonionic detergent useful for solubilization of membrane-bound proteins in their native state. Easily removed by dialysis. Has a CMC of 19.5 mM.

Application

  • An assessment of the biochemical applications of the non-ionic surfactant Hecameg.: This foundational study explores the biochemical applications of Hecameg, particularly its efficacy in solubilizing membrane proteins without denaturation, making it a valuable tool in membrane biochemistry research (Ruiz et al., 1994).

  • Purification and characterization of the cytochrome b6 f complex from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.: Hecameg is utilized in this study for the purification of the cytochrome b6 f complex, demonstrating its effectiveness in maintaining the functional integrity of membrane protein complexes during isolation (Pierre et al., 1995).

  • Development of an improved in vitro activity assay for medium chain length PHA polymerases based on CoenzymeA release measurements.: This article describes the use of Hecameg in an improved assay for polymerase activity, emphasizing its role in biochemical methods that require the stabilization of enzyme activities (de Roo et al., 2000).
