Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. Hello, I need a known concentration of NH4OH in order to make a standard curve by injecting it into the GC-MS. I wonder to know which one of these ammonia solutions might be correct for this application.

    1 answer
    1. This product is the dissolution of ammonia NH3 in the gaseous state in water (at the most widely used concentration of 25 to 30%). The concentration of an aqueous ammonia solution is measured on the basis of NH3 because ammonium hydroxide NH4OH does not actually exist, it is a solution of NH3 in water: NH3 + H2O = NH4 + + HO- .

      The concentration can be calculated using the molecular weight and density. The density of the product is 0.9 g/mL, at 25%, so the molarity = Density x w/w% x 1000 / Mw = 0.9 g/mL x 25% x 1000 / 35.05 g/mol = 6.42 mol/L.

This product is not GC grade, nor are any ammonia solution or ammonium hydroxide solution products currently offered. 1.05432 is a very high grade of ammonium hydroxide solution with a lot-specific percentage purity reported on the Certificate of Analysis.

QC1593 is a Certified Reference Material with a certified concentration and uncertainty reported on the Certificate of Analysis. The concentration in QC1593 is much lower, with the current lot (LRAD5461) having a value of 0.892 ± 0.030 mg/L reported in the Certificate of Analysis. It is intended for use in UV-vis spectroscopy, but it may be more in the concentration range and application desired for a calibration curve. Please see the product link below:
