General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG), an anionic phospholipid is present in the intracellular membranes of mammals. 1% of the total phospholipids consists of PG.

Application

17:0 PG (1,2-diheptadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)) has been used as an internal standard in quantifying lipids. It has also been used as a standard to examine polar metabolites and lipids profiling in human plasma using hydrophilic liquid interaction chromatography (HILIC)- fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The level of phosphatidylglycerol (PG) can be used to indicate the maturity of fetus lung.
