The tissue-irritating effect of anodyne medicaments was studied via enzyme histochemical evaluation of muscle tissue (screening test) and pulp tissue (usage test). Of the medicaments tested, formocresol was the most irritating, followed by Cresatin, eugenol, and oil of pimenta leaf.
