Biochem/physiol Actions
Interleukin-5 exhibits activity on eosinophils, B cells, and thymocytes. Human and mouse IL-5 exhibit homology at the nucleotide and amino acid levels and show species cross-reactivity.
Interleukin-5 is a product of activated T lymphocytes and exhibits activity on eosinophils, B cells and thymocytes. Synonyms or biological activities attributed to IL-5 include: EDF (eosinophil differentiating factor), BCGF-II (B cell growth factor-II), TRF (T cell replacing factor), IgA-EF (IgA enhancing factor) and EO-CSF (eosinophil colony stimulating factor). Natural IL-5 is a 45-50 kDa dimeric glycoprotein, although glycosylation is not required for activity. Human and mouse IL-5 exhibit homology at the nucleotide and amino acid levels and show species cross-reactivity.

Complement is implicated in asthma pathogenesis, but its mechanism of action in this disease remains incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the role of properdin (P), a positive alternative pathway complement regulator, in allergen-induced airway inflammation. Allergen challenge stimulated

Activation-induced deaminase (AID) is a DNA-mutating enzyme that mediates class-switch recombination as well as somatic hypermutation of antibody genes in B cells. Due to off-target activity, AID is implicated in lymphoma development by introducing genome-wide DNA damage and initiating chromosomal

Extracellular acidification has been observed in allergic inflammatory diseases. Recently, we demonstrated that the proton-sensing receptor G protein-coupled receptor 65 (GPR65) regulates eosinophil survival in an acidic environment in vitro and eosinophil accumulation in an allergic lung inflammation model. For
