Ethylaluminum dichloride is a strong Lewis acid and a proton scavenger that can be used:

• To catalyze polymerization of isobutylene.
• To facilitate Diels-Alder reaction of α,β-unsaturated esters.
• To carry out Pinacol reduction rearrangements.
