General description

N-palmitoyl(d9) dihydrosphingosine is a deuterated form of N-palmitoyl dihydrosphingosine (N16DS18). N16DS18 is a N-acyl dihydrosphingosine (NDS) present in human hair. NDS acyl chains comprise 2-24 carbons.

Application

N-palmitoyl(d9) dihydrosphingosine CER10(d9) has been used as a deuterium-labeled ceramide internal standard in lipid extraction from human and mouse stratum corneum (SC) samples for liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Dihydrosphingosine provides protection to the skin by acting as a lipid barrier.
