Gene Information

human ... GRK5(2869)

General description

GRK5 (G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5) belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor kinase family, and shows major expression in normal human heart. This protein contains a nuclear localization sequence and hence localizes in nucleus.

Biochem/physiol Actions

GRK5 (G protein-coupled receptor kinase 5) controls the functions of catecholamines, which bind and activate β-adrenergic receptors, and have cardiac inotropic and chronotropic actions. It is responsible for the uncoupling from G protein by facilitating β1-adrenergic receptor phosphorylation and β-arrestin recruitment. This protein plays a key role in growth and metastasis in prostate cancer, where it phosphorylates moesin.† A genome-wide association study (GWAS) has shown that rs10886471 variant in GRK5 gene is linked with susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
