5-(Azidomethyl)-2′-deoxyuridine (AmdU) exhibits good chemical stability and the ability to metabolically label cellular DNA. Following its incorporation into cellular DNA by endogenous enzymes, AmdU can be detected using both copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) and strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) reactions.
