General description

Humic acid possess excellent complexing ability with heavy metal.[1] Humic acid sodium salt acts as a proxy for humic-like substances that were identified as a major component of the isolated organic matter in the atmospheric aerosol.[1]

Humic acid sodium salt, also known as sodium humate is used to synthesize superabsorbents.[2]

Application

Humic acid sodium salt is suitable reagent used to study the hygroscopic growth of solid aerosol particles consisting of mixtures of ammonium sulfate, adipic acid and humic acid mixtures.[1] It is suitable reagent used to study the phase transitions and hygroscopic growth of humic acid aerosols by Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy and tandem differential mobility analysis (TDMA).[3]

Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. What's the difference between Product 53680 and Product H16752?

    1 answer
    1. Product 53680 is the free acid form while product H16752 is the sodium salt form of humic acid. Humic acids are strongly acidic and naturally occurring. Humic acids exist predominantly in their salt form. Product H16752 is treated with HCl resulting in the purified free acid form, product 53680.

  2. What is the chemical formula of the humic acid salt? is it C9H8O4Na2? If not, what is the percentage of carbon in the humic acid salt?

    1 answer
    1. Humic acid is a natural source material and exists in nature primarily as the sodium form. This is a technical grade product and in-depth analysis has not been performed, including carbon content. It is composed of a polycyclic core (mostly aromatic), loosely bound polysaccharides, proteins, phenols and chelated metal ions. The molecular weight can range from 2kDa - 500kDa, with the bulk being 20kDa - 50kDa. PubChem lists the formula as C9H8NA2O4. This would be the core formula.
