Description

General description

Triethylgermanium hydride (Ge(C₂H₅)₃H) may be prepared by a three step process:

• Ge(C₂H₅)₃Br reacted with Na to yield Ge₂(C₂H₅)₆
• Ge₂(C₂H₅)₆ treated with Li to form Ge(C₂H₅)₃Li
• ammonolysis of Ge(C₂H₅)₃Li to give the end product, Ge(C₂H₅)₃H. 1

Application

Reagent undergoes hydrogermylation with alkyl propiolates to give triethylgermylacrylates.
