Biochem/physiol Actions

The major estrogen secreted by the premenopausal ovary. Estrogens direct the development of the female phenotype in embryogenesis and during puberty by regulating gene transcription and, thus, protein synthesis. It also induces the production of gonadotropins which, in turn, induce ovulation. Exposure to estradiol increases breast cancer incidence and proliferation.
The major estrogen secreted by the premenopausal ovary.

  1. Is your estradiol and testosterone sterile?

    1. This product is not sterile. Prepared solutions would need to be filter-sterilized. Please see the link below to review a sterile Estradiol product option:

      Currently, a sterile testosterone product is not available. Testosterone product T1500, while not sterile or tested for use in cell culture, has been used successfully by other researchers in culture applications. Please see the link below to review an example publication:

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.     1. This product has not been tested for solubility in DMSO, however various sources report that it is soluble at 20 mg/mL.

    1. For cell culture applications, the working range of this compound is 0.2 - 10 ng/mL.  For cell culture tested beta-estradiol, please refer to Sigma-Aldrich Prod. Nos. E2758 and E2257.
