Questions

  1. Can you provide information on the sterilization method for product TMO383423-42?

    1 answer
    1. When using polycarbonate bottles, it is recommended to autoclave and/or use radiation for sterilization. Before autoclaving, it is important to thoroughly rinse the products to avoid crazing and spotting caused by detergent residues. The autoclaving cycles should be limited to 20 minutes at 121°C, as repeated autoclaving can lead to a loss of mechanical strength, affecting its performance under high-stress applications such as centrifugation. It is not advisable to expose these vessels to high stresses such as vacuum application or centrifugation. Dishwashers can be used with all resins, except for LLDPE, acrylic, and PS, due to temperature limitations. The maximum recommended use temperature for polycarbonate is 115°C - 138°C. Repeated washing of polycarbonate vessels in the dishwasher can weaken the strength of the bottles. Detailed information and recommendations on autoclaving and a table of resin properties with recommended sterilization methods can be found in our Nalgene technical guide, specifically on page 16 and 19.
