General description

Amphetamine, a stimulant of the phenethylamine class, is found in ADHD-treatment drugs such as Adderall®, Vyvanse®, and ProCentra®. Because of its stimulant effect, amphetamine is used recreationally as a performance-enhancer and illicit drug. This stable-labeled internal standard is suitable for quantitation of amphetamine levels in urine, serum, or plasma by LC/MS or GC/MS for urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, or sports testing.

Application

  • Pharmacokinetic studies: The utilization of (±)-Amphetamine-d5 in a UPLC-MS/MS method for rapid screening of psychoactive drugs in blood exemplifies its role in pharmacokinetic analysis, aiding in the understanding of drug metabolism and clearance rates in forensic and clinical settings (Barone et al., 2023).
  • Forensic toxicology: In forensic analysis, (±)-Amphetamine-d5 serves as an internal standard for the accurate detection and quantification of amphetamines in complex biological matrices, enhancing the reliability of drug testing protocols in legal and medical investigations (Andersson et al., 2008).
  • Drug abuse monitoring: The compound′s application in the detection of amphetamine and methamphetamine in seized tablets demonstrates its critical role in public health and safety efforts, particularly in areas with high incidences of drug abuse (Alhazmi et al., 2020).

The development of the nervous system involves an initially exuberant production of neurons that make an excessive number of synaptic contacts. The initial overproduction of synapses promotes connectivity. Hebbian competition between axons with different activities (the least active are punished)
