Gene Information

human ... TRPA1(8989)

General description

The structure of the protein encoded by this gene is highly related to both the protein ankyrin and transmembrane proteins. The specific function of this protein has not yet been determined; however, studies indicate the function may involve a role in signal transduction and growth control. (provided by RefSeq)
Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily A member 1 (TRPA1) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 8q21.11. The encoded protein belongs to the family of TRPA branch of the TRP ion channel gene family.

Immunogen

TRPA1 (AAI53004.1, 1 a.a. ~ 1119 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily A member 1 (TRPA1) plays a vital role in sensory processes, including cold sensation and hearing. It acts as a key sensor for mustard oil, allicin and other chemical irritants. Mutation in the gene is associated with familial episodic pain syndrome.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4
