Application
3-Mercaptopropanyl-N-hydroxysuccinimide ester is an aliphatic, heterobifunctional crosslinking reagent. Due to the functional groups, this material can be used in a multitude of applications, such as the synthesis of protien-polymer conjugates and the synthesis of functionalized quantum dots. In addition to use as a crosslinking agent, this material can also be used to install functional groups post-polymerization. The terminal N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester can react with amines while the terminal thiol can react with thiols, alkenes, and alkynes. The free thiol can also be used to form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surfaces.
3-Mercaptopropanyl-N-hydroxysuccinimide ester can be used in the synthesis of diaminobutane (DAB) based dendrimers for the formation of an ultrafiltration membrane for the removal of heavy metals.
