General description

Fluorescein is a xanthene dye and is a common labeling agent in biology.[1]

Application

Fluorescein sodium salt has been used as a solute to study microvessel permeability.[2][3] It has been used as a test molecule to study blood barrier penetration.[4]
Water soluble fluorescent dye used in permeability and vascular perfusion studies due to its small molecular radius.[5] Sodium fluorescein is used as a fluorescent tracer to study blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) permeability in rodent models.[6][7][8] The dye was used as a probe substrate in the study of organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) mediated drug transport in hepatocytes.[9] Sodium fluorescein was also used to monitor in situ solute transportation into bone through fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP).[10]

The aim of this study was to characterize the in vitro hepatic uptake kinetics of sodium fluorescein (NaFluo) and identify the transporters involved. NaFluo exhibited saturable uptake kinetics in suspended rat and human hepatocytes as reflected by K(m) values of

Changes in the blood-central nervous system barriers occur under pathological conditions including inflammation and contribute to central manifestations of various diseases. After short-lasting peripheral and neurogenic inflammation, the evidence is mixed whether there are consistent blood-spinal cord changes. In the

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. What is the purity of Fluorescein sodium salt (CAS number 518-47-8, article number F6377-100G)?

    1 answer
    1. This purity of this product is not determined.

      Helpful?

  2. Can this product be autoclaved once dissolved? How long can a concentrated dissolved stock solution be stored for?

    1 answer
    1. The stability of Fluorescein under autoclave conditions has not been determined. Solutions have typically been filter sterilized. Long term solution stability has also not been evaluated. However, solutions of Fluorescein Diacetate are stable at -20°C in ethanol when protected from light. Similar stability would be expected with the sodium salt form.

  3. Hello, I am interested in Fluorescein or Fluoresein sodium salt to perform angiography in the living mouse and would like to know if your product has a pharmacological grade. Which product is used for angiography?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, a pharmacological grade Fluorescein or Fluorescein sodium salt is not available at this time.

      Helpful?

  4. Is F6377 soluble in ethanol?

    1 answer
    1. The substance is soluble in water (500 g/l) at 20°C and slightly soluble in ethanol, but insoluble in benzene, chloroform, and ether.

      Helpful?
