General description

Fucoxanthinol belongs to the class of carotenoids. It is the primary metabolite of fucoxanthin, a major marine carotenoid isolated from edible brown seaweeds such as Undaria pinnatifida, Hijikia fusiformis, Laminaria japonica and Sargassum fulvellum with various biological functions. Fucoxanthinol is a compound of significant interest as it exhibits various physiological effects. It is a chemotherapeutic agent that is known to inhibit the growth of human colorectal cancer cells.

Application

Fucoxanthinol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in rat plasma by chromatography-based techniques.
