Questions

  1. What type of 2-methyl butane product should be ordered for freezing tissue in a metal beaker?

    1 answer
    1. The recommended approach is to use anhydrous isopentane/2-methylbutane, with catalog number 277258 being the primary choice. Product 270342 is a high-purity grade primarily intended for HPLC use and other critical applications. Although it is packaged in a special way due to HPLC use, it can still be utilized for flash freezing tissue to prevent ice crystal formation. Another option is MX0760, listed as a Practical grade. Although this product is not specifically tested for freezing tissue, it is expected to be suitable. However, M32631 might be a better option due to higher purity, even though it is not specifically tested for use with freezing tissue. There is no harm in using the high-purity product 270342 for freezing tissue, but it may not be the most cost-effective option.
