General description
Ellagic acid hydrate is a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound found in various fruits and vegetables. Its unique chemical structure, characterized by two adjacent phenolic hydroxyl groups, contributes to its strong antioxidant properties, making it effective in scavenging free radicals. It is widely used in bioimaging and skin care products owing to its UV protective and biocompatibility properties.
Application
Ellagic acid hydrate(EA) can be used:
- As a precursor to prepare nanoscale coordination polymer contrast agent for photoacoustic and MRI tumor imaging. The addition of EA enhances spin correlation time upon iron coordination, biocompatibility, and in vivo stability.
- As a precursor in the formulation of sunscreens and anti-acne products because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- To fabricate biodegradable PVA-sodium alginate hydrogel nanospheres which can be used as biocompatible dressing to accelerate the wound healing process.
- As a precursor to prepare sono-assembly of ellagic acid nanoparticles which enhances their bioavailability and aqueous solubility.
