Descripción general

Characterized olive oil samples are available for use as controls or check samples for fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analyses. These reference materials can be used as qualitative standards. They provide an excellent means of standardizing the lipid procedures and comparing the results to others. Packed in an amber ampule under nitrogen.

Aplicación

Olive oil may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in milk samples by high performance liquid chromatography technique.[1]
Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

The health benefits of olive oil result from its higher proportion of monounsaturated fats, as well as its antioxidant constituents: hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein and oleocanthal.

Mediterranean olive heritage richness is poorly characterized. Olive oils from minor cultivars of Northeast-Portugal (Lentisca, Madural, Rebolã, Redondal, Verdeal and Verdeal Transmontana) from centenarian trees were chemical and sensory characterized, aiming to identify autochthonous cultivars capable of producing differentiated olive

Authenticity and traceability of high quality monovarietal extra virgin olive oils is a major concern for markets and consumers. Although analytical chemistry techniques are widely used to satisfy these needs recently developed DNA-based methods can serve as complementary approaches. A

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. I was wondering, what could be the reason to see the FAME peaks in a highly different ratio? (i.e 16:0 relative abundance is larger then 18:1). The chromatogram peaks are very clear and separated, what FAME derivatization method would you suggest to use?

    1 answer
    1. The product issue you are reporting should be investigated by our Technical Service team who can assist you with further troubleshooting and/or investigation. We kindly ask you to navigate to the link https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/techservice, and click on "Report Product Issues" under the Products Section with all the required information so that a member of our team can reach out to you to assist further. 2. What capillary column can be used to analyze Product 47118, Olive Oil, after prepared into methyl esters?

    1 answer
    1. We used an SP™-2380 capillary column, L × I.D. 30 m × 0.25 mm, df 0.20 μm (Supelco Product No. 24110-U) to analyze the methyl esters of product 47118 Olive Oil.  The temperature program is 150 °C to 250 °C, increasing at a rate of 4 °C per minute, with helium carrier gas at 20 cm/sec at 150 °C. Use an injection volume of 3 μL, and split of 100:1, and FID detection at 260 °C.
