General description

El OMI es un ultrapurificador que elimina muchos componentes que pasan desapercibidos para los otros purificadores de las fases anteriores del proceso. Eliminará de manera simultánea e irreversible humedad, oxígeno, monóxido de carbono, dióxido de carbono, la mayor parte de los compuestos de azufre, la mayoría de los compuestos de halógeno, los alcoholes y los fenoles hasta menos de 10 ppb. Se recomienda la instalación de un OMI en corrientes de gases portadores justo antes de cada GC. Consta de dos componentes:
  • Un portatubos reutilizable que se instala en el sistema de suministro de gas. El uso de policarbonato proporciona capacidad de transparencia además de seguridad.
  • Un tubo purificador que contiene una resina indicadora (cambio de color de negro a marrón cuando se expone a tan sólo 1 ppm de humedad u oxígeno). El uso de vidrio proporciona la capacidad de transparencia y evita la difusión de contaminantes de la sala al interior de la corriente gaseosa.

Los tubos purificadores gastados son fáciles de reponer. Sólo tiene que desenroscar el conjunto del extremo del portatubos y sustituirlo por un tubo purificador nuevo. El diseño impide que el aire ambiente entre en el nuevo tubo durante la instalación (las láminas protectoras que cubren cada extremo sólo se traspasan cuando el conjunto del extremo se enrosca en el portatubos para completar la instalación).

Los tubos purificadores OMI® eliminan simultáneamente el oxígeno, el vapor de agua, el CO, el CO2, la mayor parte de los compuestos de azufre, la mayoría de los compuestos de halógeno, los alcoholes y los fenoles hasta menos de 10 ppb. También purifican el helio, el hidrógeno, el nitrógeno, el argón y el metano. El cambio de color indica el agotamiento del purificador. El cuerpo de cristal no difunde el aire ni el gas de escape. Además, son ideales para los sistemas de detección Hall, ECD y GC/MS.

Application

The OMI® Purifier Tube (Oxygen & Moisture Indicating) has several specific applications, particularly in the field of gas chromatography and analytical laboratories. Color changing from black to yellow when resin is spent
  • The OMI Purifier Tube is used to purify carrier gases such as helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, argon, and methane. It removes contaminants like oxygen, water vapor, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur compounds, halogen compounds, alcohols, and phenols to less than 10 ppb.
  • It is recommended to install the OMI Purifier Tube just upstream of every GC system. This ensures that the carrier gas entering the GC is free from contaminants, which is crucial for accurate and reliable analytical results.

  2. We want this cartridge to remove oxygen from nitrous oxide gas (N2O). Is this purifier tube compatible with N2O, and will it not also try to remove it?

    1. This product is not suitable for the application of removing oxygen from nitrous oxide gas. The reactive polymeric sorbent in this purifier tube irreversibly reacts with nearly all oxygenated species, including nitrous oxide.

  3. How much purifier material is in the tube by mass and volume?

    1. The amount of resin in the tube is five grams. The packing is not measured by volume, though the tube itself is a 15 cc tube.

    1. The product number 23906 OMI® Purifier Tube does not have a product number on the aluminum foil bag due to the use of multiple products with this type of bag. To ensure that the correct product is received, customers are advised to open the aluminum bag to find the glass tube labeled OMI-2 23906. This is done to prevent damage during shipment and to avoid any reactions due to exposure to oxygen.

  5. How to determine when the OMI® Purifier Tube -23906 is spent and needs to be changed? Also, what are the connections of the OMI® Purifier Tube -23906?

    1. The rapid color change will indicate potential problems in the purification system. If the change is relatively rapid, the bulk purifier is spent, the carrier gas is contaminated, or there is a leak in the system somewhere upstream.

      2. The OMI® Purifier Tube can be connected to 1/8" tubing. For 1/4" tubing, use 1/4" to 1/8" Swagelock® reducer (brass - Cat. No 2-1516, or stainless steel - Cat. No 2-1517).

  6. Hi, I was wondering if there is a maximum flow rate and pressure rating for the OMI® Purifier Tube filters/holders?

    1. The operational line pressure must not exceed 150 psi. Flow should not exceed 300 mL/min for OMI-2.
