Gene Information

human ... CXCL1(2919)

General description

GROα, also called CXCL1 (chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1), is a member of the small soluble chemokine protein family. It belongs to the C-X-C subfamily, which is comprised of 17 members. It contains a conserved glutamic acid-leucine-arginine (ELR) domain. This protein is expressed on stromal cells such as, endothelial cells, fibroblasts and blood-circulating cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

GROα, also called CXCL1 (chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1), plays an essential role in neutrophil recruitment, and the initiation of angiogenesis. This gene is up-regulated in multiple cancer types such as, gastric cancer, renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer and melanoma. The expression of this protein is also elevated in HER2 positive metastatic breast cancer. Its expression is increased in fibroblasts, which might be involved in breast tumor progression, and its stromal expression in breast cancer is linked to poor prognosis. This gene is also up-regulated in the aggressive phenotype of bladder cancer. Polymorphism rs4074 A in this gene is also associated with susceptibility to alcoholic cirrhosis.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 25% acetonitrile and 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid containing 50 μg bovine serum albumin per 1 μg of cytokine.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to induce chemotaxis of mouse BaF/3 cells transfected with hCXCR2.

CXCL1 is a chemotactic cytokine shown to regulate breast cancer progression and chemo-resistance. However, the prognostic significance of CXCL1 expression in breast cancer has not been fully characterized. Fibroblasts are important cellular components of the breast tumor microenvironment, and recent

CXCL1 (CXC chemokine-ligand-1) is a ligand for CXC chemokine receptor 2 expressed on hepatic stellate cells (HSC). Thus, CXCL1 might contribute to HSC activation and fibrogenesis. In the present study, we investigated the influence of the CXCL1 rs4074 polymorphism on

Chemokines, including chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1), may regulate tumor epithelial-stromal interactions that facilitate tumor growth and invasion. Studies have linked CXCL1 expression to gastric, colon and skin cancers, but limited studies to date have described CXCL1 protein expression
