General description
Inulin Discs are used to differentiate bacteria based on the inulin fermentation ability. Microorganisms can only ferment certain carbohydrates, depending on the enzymes they possess to break down these carbohydrates. Fermentation can be detected by gas production (CO2) in liquid media and/or color change of pH caused by acid production. The inulin discs are aseptically added to any sugar-free basal media to test the ability of the organism to hydrolyze inulin, a naturally occurring polysaccharide, as the sole source of carbon and energy during fermentation. Inulin is typically fermented under acid production by many Streptococcus species.Inulin is used for the differentiation of streptococci, for example, to differentiate Streptococcus pneumoniae from other non-pathogenic Streptococcus species. According to CDC, inulin is also used for the identification of Globicatella species.
Application
Inulin Discs are recommended to detect inulin fermenting bacteria in food and environmental samples. They find their application in various sectors such as the food and dairy industry, water industry, pharmaceutical laboratory testing, cosmetic industry, environmental and sanitary testing, clinical diagnostic, etc.

Exposure to excessive sound causes noise-induced hearing loss through complex mechanisms and represents a common and unmet neurological condition. We investigate how noise insults affect the cochlea with proteomics and functional assays. Quantitative proteomics reveals that exposure to loud noise

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a complex and deadly disease lacking druggable genetic mutations. The limited efficacy of systemic treatments for advanced HCC implies that predictive biomarkers and drug targets are urgently needed. Most HCC drugs target protein kinases, indicating that

Vaccinia virus (VACV) has numerous immune evasion strategies, including multiple mechanisms of inhibition of interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF-3), nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), and type I interferon (IFN) signaling. Here, we use highly multiplexed proteomics to quantify ∼9,000 cellular proteins and

Establishing the pattern of abundance of molecules of interest during cell division has been a long-standing goal of cell cycle studies. Here, for the first time in any system, we present experiment-matched datasets of the levels of RNAs, proteins, metabolites
