General description

Silica gel orange (Drying pearls Orange) is a commonly employed drying agent.

Application

Silica gel orange (Drying pearls Orange) may be used to provide long-term storage conditions in the following studies:
  • Multiwell plates in a gel drying box during the solid-phase reverse transfection on cell microarrays.[1]
  • Robust protocol for the reverse transfection of cells on small interfering (siRNA) arrays.[2]
It was used to compose the spotting solution of transfection array.[3]

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Why does the silica gel with product number 13767-500G-R turn black after being used as a desiccant instead of remaining clear as the customer expects?

    1 answer
    1. The orange indicating silica gel initially appears orange or yellow when dry and changes to a dark green color as it absorbs moisture, which may appear close to black. Once saturated, the gel can be regenerated at temperatures of approximately 120°C. It's important not to exceed this temperature as it can damage the color indicator in the gel, making it less effective.

      Helpful?

  2. Silica gel orange (13767): How many times can we regenerate the silica gel in the oven until it's no longer possible?

    1 answer
    1. The number of drying cycles that orange silica gel can be subjected to has not been assessed. The moisture indicating component is an organic compound and will fade after some time, but the moisture absorbing properties should persist.
