Description générale

A certified solution standard for use in LC/MS or GC/MS benzodiazepine testing methods in clinical toxicology, urine drug testing, or forensic analysis. Etizolam, sold under brand names such as Etilaam, Etizola, or Depas, is a benzodiazepine analog used for the short-term treatment of insomnia, anxiety, or panic attacks. Etizolam is also sold on the designer drug market with cases of abuse noted in Europe and the US.

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Etizolam is a thienodiazepine anxiolytic and as compared to other benzodiazepines has lower dependence potential. It differs from other benzodiazepines in that its molecules possess a thiophene ring instead of benzene. It has anticonvulsant, sedative, anxiolytic, amnesic, hypnotic and muscle relaxant properties. It′s mode of action is through benzodiazepine receptor. It is used to treat insomnia, moderate depression and social anxiety disorder, and has occasionally been associated with blepharospasm and skin lesions.

A fatal poisoning case involving etizolam, phenobarbital, promethazine and chlorpromazine is presented. Quantitative toxicological analysis showed that the concentrations of etizolam, phenobarbital, promethazine and chlorpromazine in the femoral blood were 86 ng/ml, 5082 microg/ml, 0.107 microg/ml and 0.144 microg/ml, respectively

Etizolam is an anxiolytic drug with a pharmacologic profile similar to that of the classic benzodiazepines. Neurochemical research suggests that etizolam may have selectivity for the subpopulation of Y-aminobutyric acid type A receptors associated with anxiety (ie, alpha1, beta2, gamma2).

Etizolam (ETZ) is an antidepressive thienodiazepine drug that is used worldwide. The most frequent adverse effects in adults are drowsiness and muscle weakness, and this can rarely cause paradoxical excitation; however, no information exists on intoxication in children. Furthermore, evidence
