General description

Hemin- Vitamin K1 readymade solution is used as a culture medium enrichment for fastidious anaerobic microorganisms.1,2 Hemin-Vitamin K1 is a key ingredient compound that is part of anaerobic media such as brucella broth, thioglycolate broth, reinforced clostridial medium, cooked meat broth, peptone yeast extract medium, fastidious anaerobe agar etc. Hemin helps to regulate the expression of numerous virulence factors and extracellular vesicle formations in Porphyromonas sp. 3,4. Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) is produced by plants, it is used as a redox cofactor in plants and cyanobacteria. Vitamin K1 is converted into vitamin K2 in the gut by intestinal microbiota. Hemin and Vitamin K1have been shown to enhance the growth of many anaerobes including Bacteroides species and certain gram-positive non-spore formers organisms.

Application

Hemin- Vitamin K1 readymade solution is suitable to use as a media supplement for anaerobic bacterial culture .
