General description

Potassium bicarbonate (Potassium hydrogen carbonate) is an inexpensive, nontoxic base. It is used to regulate pH or as a reagent.

Application

Potassium bicarbonate is used:
  • In the synthesis of cyclic ammonium cation N,N-dimethyl-3,5-dimethylpiperidinium (DMDMP).
  • As a base in the preparation of glycerol carbonate and glycidol from 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol (HAL).
