General description

Anthracene is a low-molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). It acts as starting material for the production of anthraquinone.[1]

Application

Anthracene has been shown to be soluble in a variety of binary and ternary mixtures of cyclohexanone, ethyl acetate, and methanol .
Anthracene has been used as reference standard in identifying and quantifying PAHs in edible oils using GC–MS method.[2]
