Application

Various concentrations of Deoxyribonucleic acid, low molecular weight, from salmon sperm has been used:
  • to study DNA binding to silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite nanocrystals.
  • in simple electrochemical DNA biosensors to detect and evaluate DNA damage caused by UV-C radiation and reactive oxygen species.
  • as a precursor in the synthesis of the bio-dots.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Salmon sperm DNA is often used as a blocking agent invarious research applications. It isknown to improve the specificity and sensitivity of the multi-AP assay byreducing non-specific binding and background signal.

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. What is base pair size of 31149-10G-F?

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight of this product is not determined. This material is produced by mechanical disruption, no chemical or enzymatic treatment has been applied. The estimated molecular weight range of this DNA is 50,000 – 100,000 Da and is primarily double stranded. Note that whole DNA from salmon sperm has a molecular weight of 1.98x10e11 Da. While the number of base pairs(bp) is not determined on a lot-to-lot basis, based on a approximate molecular weight of 650 Da per bp, the estimated chain length range is 77 – 154 bp. However, historical records indicate chain lengths up to 300 bp have been detected.

  2. What is the approximate estimate of guanine bases in % like 50% or more?

    1 answer
    1. Produced by mechanical shearing of native salmon sperm DNA, this product has not undergone empirical determination of its exact guanine content. However, published literature indicates a typical salmon sperm DNA guanine base content of ~20.8 to 22%.

  3. Is this product double stranded and is it suitable as a substrate for nuclease activity assays?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a double-stranded DNA. However, the DNA product D1501 has been successfully utilized as a substrate in the Enzymatic Assay of Deoxyribonuclease I and may be better suited for this application.
